Laurencekirk Limousin takes home overall exhibition championship at the Spring Show

A fantastic show of exhibition calves was witnessed at the Royal Northern Spring Show held at the Thainstone Centre, Inverurie on Wednesday.

Held in conjunction with Aberdeen and Northern Marts, and sponsored by Northlink Ferries, the presale show was judged by Michael Alford, Foxhill Farm, Devon.

Mr Alford’s Overall Champion place was awarded to a April 2022 born Limousin Cross Bullock from A& J Gammie, Drumforber, Laurencekirk.

He will be kept for future showing in the summer.

Reserve Champion was a Limousin Cross Bullock, scaling 495kgs from J Robertson & Co Newton of Logierait.

The February 2022 born bullock, sired by Glenrock Inferno sold for £2600 to Blair Duffton, 2 Bogie Street, Huntly.

The top price from the sale was for the Champion Heifer from J Robertson & Co Newton of Logierait, the 382kgs British Blue Cross Heifer sold for £5000 to Blair Duffton of Huntly.

Born in April 2022 the home-bred heifer is sired by Warehams Mickey.

Next best to the top price sold at £3600 and was an August 2021 born British Blue Cross Heifer from J Robertson & Co Newton of Logierait, Pitlochry weighing 545kgs, and selling to Blair Duffton, 2 Bogie Street, Huntly.

The Reserve Champion Heifer, a Charolais cross heifer from William Robertson & Son Fodderletter Farms, Tomintoul, Ballindalloch sold for £2700, selling to H Lorimer, Cadgerford, Kingswell. The 363kgs heifer was born in April 2022 and was sired by Blackford Iowa.

Two other calves sold for £2600, including the overall champion a Limousin Cross Bullock from J Robertson & Co Newton of Logierait. Also selling for £2600 was a Limousin Cross Heifer from Findlay Hunter, West Cairnhill, Culsalmond, Insch selling to J &J young, East Sinnahard, Glenkindie, Alford.

A British Blue Cross Heifer, scaling 436kgs, born in April 2022 from J Robertson & Co Newton of Logierait, Pitlochry sold for £2500 to Blair Duffton, 2 Bogie Street Huntly.

A Limousin Cross Heifer scaling 636kgs, from Georgina Fraser, Little Cory Farm, Inverness sold for £2200 to Harry Emslie, Brae of Coynach, Mintlaw.

The bullocks saw a Limousin Cross calf, born in April 2022 and scaling 430kgs from J Robertson & Co Newton of Logierait, Pitlochry sold for £2300 to Paterson.

The sale saw 19 heifer sell to the average of £4.99 per kg and 15 bullocks selling to the average of £3.75 per kg, with the overall average of £2165.91. per head.
