It was also confirmed that 10 cases were recorderd in a potential cluster in Greater Glasgow and three cases in Orkney.

Speaking at her daily briefing, First Minister Nicola Sturgeon said: In the case of Aberdeen 26 of the 47 cases yesterday were in the NHS Grampian area, this means there are now 300 identified in NHS Grampian of which 182 associated with cluster related to pubs and 961 contacts have been identified.

"Aberdeenshire has also delayed the opening of Peterhead Central School while a potential cluster is investigated.

"Eight cases in Glasgow are related to a High School and also the Orkney cluster is under investigation.

"All work that should be done is being done to ensure track and trace and I continue to urge against complacency.

"We are also looking to see if the Orkney cases contain links to the Aberdeen outbreak.

"They should not cause undue alarm, they are inevitable and test and protect is doing what it should so that everything possible can be done to break the chain."

She stressed: "We should become used to hearing about clusters.

"Although we should not be alarmed we should not be complacent, Covid-19 is still present and will spread if given an opportunity."

One specific risk she noted was house parties.

The First Minister said: "These are the basis for further concern.

"House parties present a considerable risk, please stick the rules of eight people for a max of three households.

"Unless under 12year old, keep two metres apart and wash hands.

"There are not optional rules – in many respects they are the most vital.

"It is harder for any enforcement to work against gatherings like this so we rely on good judgement.

"I don’t want to have to enforce more restrictions on people having to meet indoors.

"I am not blaming young people but those with more freedom should take more care.

"House parties are not sensible."
