Luck was not with Garioch Gents at Stirling as they lost out 72-74 with the last bowl of the match writes Mike Barron.

This was truly the “hard luck story ” of this season, and was the hardest to take.

Two rinks were up and two down.

The score after 10 ends was Stirling 34 Garioch 33.

Three rinks had finished their 21 ends, and the Alan Rough quartet were just finishing with the match score level at 72-72. Rough was lying at least 2 shots when Stirling skip drew with his last bowl to take 2 shots to make it 72-74.

This was the last of the fixtures for 2023. Having been promoted from the North Division 1 last year, the aim for the Club was to do well and avoid relegation.

So far the Garioch has only 1 win at home, although another was close, again at home.

In defence of the team only 2 of 6 matches have been at home.

Reviewing the fixtures, there was a fine home win against Falkirk, the League leaders, by 83-77, but defeat against Stirling again at home might have been different.

It finished Garioch 74 Stirling 81.

Away fixtures were West Lothian 106 - Garioch 44, Abbeyview 94 - Garioch 51, a defeat at Elgin 99 - Garioch 71 and the 2 shot loss at Stirling at the weekend.

The first fixture of 2024 is on Saturday, January 6 against West Lothian at home.
