A COUPLE who celebrated sixty years of marriage last week said they can't believe the changes which have taken place in that time.
Charlie (83) and Edna (78) Cameron have spent their married life farming but agreed that on the farm and in the house life had been transformed by machinery and gadgets.
Charlie was brought up at Burnside of Largue, close to the family's current farm at Largue.
Edna came from Kinnoir and like so many couples of that era, they met at the very popular dances in the Templar Hall on McVeagh Street, in Huntly.
They were married in Drumblade Church followed by a reception in the Huntly Hotel and they said it saddened them to see what had once been a prestigious venue now closed and run down.
The first few years of their marriage was on a farm near Inverurie but in 1963, Charlie, his father and brother took on Largue Farm.
The couple had two sons, Charles who now runs the farm and Neil although Charlie still goes up every day to lend a hand - although he took a day off to celebrate the marriage milestone and enjoy the company of well wishers.
Aberdeenshire Councillor Gwyneth Petrie delivered whisky, flowers and a card from the local authority.
The couple agreed that life on the farm had been quite hard and not without its challenges
Edna said: "You just got on with things though and worked through it."
Charlie said:"The best change was when combines and balers came in. There was a lot of hard work before that."
Edna started off her married life with no washing machine and central heating hadn't even been thought about.
She passes her time reading and sewing tapestries.
The couple who have two grandchildren, Claire and Euan, celebrated the anniversary with a family meal at the Forbes Arms in Rothiemay.
