MORAY Council is assessing damage caused by a landslip in Dufftown yesterday.

Debris has already been cleared after the landslip on council-owned land between Church Street and Low Road, but more debris has fallen overnight.

A council spokesperson said an initial site visit was carried out yesterday, and another visit took place today.

The council has deemed the slope above too unstable to allow the road below the landslip to be reopened safely.

It said there was an added risk of trees falling.

Traffic will be required to use Church Street until additional safety measures, such as concrete barriers and traffic lights, or landslip repairs, are implemented.

Councillor Louise Nicol (Speyside Glenlivet) added that a 7.5-tonne weight restriction on Church Street will need to be removed temporarily, as alternative routes are unsuitable for large goods vehicles.

She added: "Investigations into repair options have commenced."
