Labour candidates to go head to head in TV debate

The candidates vying to become the next leader of the Scottish Labour Party are set for a head-to-head debate on BBC Scotland next week.

MSPs Monica Lennon and Anas Sarwar will face each other on the channel’s flagship news programme The Nine on Monday 8 February, the night before voting opens for the race to succeed Richard Leonard.

The Nine’s co-presenter Rebecca Curran will host the debate which will be filmed under Social Distancing guidelines in the BBC’s Pacific Quay studio and which will feature questions from the public. V

iewers are being asked to put their questions for the two candidates by emailing The Nine at nine.news@bbc.co.uk and include their name and contact number.

“This will be the first head to head televised debate between the two candidates and we’ll try to get them to address the issues that are considered most important to our viewers,” said Rebecca.

Voting among Scottish Labour Party members begins on Tuesday, February 9, with the winner declared on Saturday, February 27.
