REMARKABLE people he has known was the topic for guest speaker Neil McArthur at this weeks meeting of the Tuesday centre in the Friendship room, Kemnay village hall.

They included Kemnay's garage entrepreneur Norman Lawrence who kept a 'good book' and wrote at least one good thing that happened every day.

Others he admired may have been financially poor but rich in the lives they chose to live.

Neil has travelled widely, on one occasion causing quite a stir at Baku airport in Azerbaijan.

Always accompanied by his bagpipes, the airport official on seeing the case with something suspicious sticking out was sure it was a gun.

Nothing would satisfy but that he should take out his bagpipes and play a few tunes.

The startled official was convinced and quickly asked him to stop!

On visits to Kenya as a volunteer with a charity he has been humbled by the living conditions in poor areas and how gratefully their donations of simple things we take for granted were received.

Neil is also well known locally as an organiser of the now famous Monymusk Boules tournament.

It resumed last year after a two year Covid absence and this year takes place on Saturday. May 27.
