THE charity strawberry teas event run in July has been confirmed as the most successful ever.

The 14th edition of the popular Keith event – run by Trisha Davidson – raised £14,829 for Breast Cancer Now.

"That's the most we have ever raised," Trisha said. "It's an unbelievable amount – I couldn't believe it, it's just brilliant support.

"Last year we raised £12,000. We have been really lucky with donations this year – across the two days we raised about £9500.

"We had a couple of big donations this year, too – £750 from Ocean Winds, £650 from Keith Fire Brigade, £350 from RJ McLeod and £190 from Dusty's Customs.

"I can never thank everybody enough for their support – whether that is through coming, donating money, or donating raffle prizes. Everybody is so generous."

This year's total takes the amount raised by the strawberry teas in 14 years to £86,111. The event has come a long way from raising £426 in its maiden year.

"Even then, that was a lot of money – it just blows your mind every year," Trisha added.

"The early goal was to raise £100,000 by the 15-year mark but never in my wildest dreams did I think we would get this money.

"It's crazy to think how far it has come. Folk look forward to it now and it gives you a bit of pride knowing you are doing things right.

"I have to say a big thanks to local folk and businesses and to the strawberry teas team because without them I couldn't do it."

Planning is underway early for next year's running 15-year anniversary running of the event.

Trisha added: "I'm already thinking of a couple of things to do.

"I have plenty of thoughts in my head for a couple of extras to celebrate 15 years because it's a big thing for folk to still be supporting us after this time."
