ENTRIES are being accepted for this year's Keith Traditional Music and Song Association (TMSA) Written Doric competitions.

There are three separate competitions that can be entered – one for under 12s, one for over 12s and one for a joint-effort between and adult and a child.

The Ian Middleton Competition (under 12s), Charles Murray Competition (composition) and Aultgowrie Poetry Competition (over 12s) are all accepting entries.

Entries for the Ian Middleton and Aultgowrie competitions must consist of one or more verses of a poem, written in Doric. There's a limit of two entries per person per competition.

The poetry can be on any subject, but must be specifically written for this year's TMSA Written Doric competitions and not have previously been entered into another competition.

The inter-generational Charles Murray Competition should be a poem or prose jointly written by people of different generations in Scots.

Children (young or old) should enlist the help of anyone from a different generation, for example, parents, grandparents, uncles, aunties, cousins or even friends to help the passing on of the Scots language through generations.

The winners will receive a beautiful silver salver with an image of Charles Murray etched on the front, which was designed by local artist Joyce Thain and donated by local business woman Marguerite Cruickshank from Mither Tongue.

Again, there's a maximum of two entries for the competition, the work should be original and written specifically for the competition.

In addition, there's a Tune Composition category. This can be a composition of any Scottish tune. There's only one entry per person and it must be an original composition written specifically for this competition.

The deadline for all entries is 9pm on Sunday, May 14. Entries can be emailed to keithfestival@gmail.com or posted to Joyce Dawson, 124 Moss Street, Keith, Banffshire, AB55 5EZ.
