Results across Moray were described as "positive" by Moray Council's Chief Education Officer Vivienne Cross who singled out this year's S4 pupils in particular for special praise.

Ross Dalgarno was one of the best performing S4 pupils in the region, achieving As in all seven of his National 5 subjects.

He was delighted with his results, adding that they are a nice "refresher" for the year ahead.

"It's a really good personal achievement," Ross said.

"I was a little bit surprised to be honest because I've had a few challenges throughout the year so I think getting these kind of results has been quite a good refresher for the year and for the future."

Despite only just starting S5, Ross says he already has an idea of what type of career he would like to pursue in the future.

"I'd really like to go further with my geography I think in terms of a career," he added.

"I've loved it since I was younger and I did really well in it in my exam so I think it would be really great to take that further."

Siena Clark, who is also moving into S5 at Keith Grammar School, achieved As in all of her National 5 subjects as well as an A in Higher Dance.

Siena also achieved an A in Higher Music when she was in S3 and says that in terms of a career she is "keeping her options open".

"I'm really pleased with myself and how I've done," Siena said.

"At the moment I'm thinking of going down the medical route or into performing arts.

"I know they're very different but I'm just keeping my options open at the moment.

"I'm going to do my sciences this year and Advanced Higher PE just to keep everything as open as possible."

Sam Martin, Keith Grammar School Depute Head Teacher, said he was proud of the pupils' achievements but added there is "no one pathway to success".

He said: "It's a massive responsibility that we have to make sure that these young people are prepared for what comes beyond school.

"There's no one pathway to success and these guys have proved that because they all have such a wide variety of subjects and different approaches.

"We're an ambitious community and we want these guys to be ambitious. We want to get them onto successful pathways for the future. That's what we're aiming for.

"Each of these young people have a story to tell and that's what I love about it."
