GROUPS in the Keith and Strathisla area are being invited to apply for local windfarm funding.

More than £90,000 is available this year from the Hill of Towie Wind Farm Community Benefit Fund.

Boharm, Botriphnie and Keith groups are being encouraged to apply for funding for projects and activities that improve social and community life or the environment.

In addition, for this funding round only, groups working in the area of benefit can apply for Covid-19 resilience grants, which can cover the purchase of equipment such as PPE and running costs if income has been hit by the pandemic.

The latest round will remain open for applications until Wednesday, May 5.

Eleven groups, including the Loft Youth Project in Keith, benefited from funding in the last round held in November last year.

Karen Cunningham, community renewables officer at REAP, which administers the fund, said: "This is a fantastic opportunity for local groups to access funding to continue to provide essential services in the community.

"We are grateful to the funder, Hill of Towie Wind Farm, for providing flexibility to support groups requiring additional assistance due to the effects of Covid."
