Delight Cafe Gallery has been nominated in the Customer Cafe of the Year category after regulars voted for the local favourite.

The cafe's nomination was a shock to owners Andy and Marion Martin who were unaware that their customers had been voting for them.

"It has totally come out of the blue," said Andy.

"We didn't even realise that the awards were happening. I heard that we were in the final and that our customers had voted for us which was news to me. I don't know how I missed that.

"It's an honour though and we're grateful to be nominated."

Andy and Marion opened the cafe in 2018.

Previously Andy had worked as a forester and photographer after moving to the area 33 years ago from Edinburgh.

The cafe has quickly become known in the area for its trademark cheese and paprika scones and coffee of the month specials which are particularly popular with locals.

"We've got the cafe, a gallery and a gift shop and I think that's a combination that has been working for us," Andy said.

"We've got one of the top scores in the area on Tripadvisor and I think that shows people are appreciating what we're doing."

The cafe has been nominated alongside eight other locations in the north category of the awards.

In order to win, David and Marion will have to submit evidence demonstrating why they are deserving of the award by June 15. That can include reviews from customers.

The evidence will then be scrutinised by a panel of judges before the winners are announced at a ceremony at the Marriott Hotel in Glasgow on June 27.

"We've only been open for three years so we're not really used to these things yet," Andy said.

"It's a black tie dinner so that will be a first for me as well.

"One of the things you can do is put forward reviews so we're hoping to get some more good ones under our belt before that date.

"It's hard work running a cafe but you do it for moments like this."
