IT was a very special New Year's Day for one Moray couple who welcomed their first child into the world in the early hours of 2024.

Karson Corrin Stevenson arrived at 4.18am at Aberdeen Maternity Hospital, weighing 6lbs 15oz.

Wishe Holmes and Ewan Stevenson, who live together in Buckie, expected him to arrive on January 11.

But after Wishe's water broke on Saturday, it was clear he was going to arrive earlier than expected.

Ewan said: "He was due on January 11 so it was a big surprise to have him on New Year's Day.

"After Wishe's water broke on Saturday we had to go to Aberdeen on Sunday to be induced as things weren't progressing on their own.

"We were there in plenty of time but the long journey wasn't convenient because I don't have a car at the moment.

"Thankfully my dad was on hand to take us through."

Thanks to the efforts of maternity staff at the hospital, Karson was delivered safely and Ewan and Wishe could not be happier with the latest addition to their family.

"It's the best way to start the year and we are both so in love with him," Ewan added.

"We both fell in love with the name Karson and his middle name is a mix of Wishe's dad's name Colin and my dad's name Darrin.

"Wishe and Karson are both well and I'm hoping to have them both home later today (January 2).

"He's just perfect."
