A Celebrating Banffshire Dinner organised by The Rotary Club of Banff raised just over £7000 for Diabetes UK and local community groups.

The event was held in the Fife Lodge Hotel and featured David Jarvis as the guest speaker, who is an Invictus Games gold medallist and type one diabetic.

Dave Curry from Diabetes Scotland also addressed the audience and spoke about the charity’s work.

A fundraising auction and a raffle were held and a total of £7061.63 was raised. The money will be split between Diabetes UK and the local organisations.

Guests also enjoyed entertainment from Robert Lovie and Raemond Jappy, and a meal.

David Jarvis, who lives in Aberchirder, served in the British Army for 21 years and had a distinguished career.

He left in 2021 and is now a project manager with International Airlines Group focusing on cyber security practices.

Despite encouraging challenges, he represented Team UK at the 2023 Invictus Games in Germany.

He endured a near life-threatening experience with Diabetic Ketoacidosis during his training and was subsequently diagnosed with type one diabetes.

He defied the odds and won a gold medal in the cycling time trial event and was the fastest cyclist across all the categories.

The evening’s closing remarks and vote of thanks were made by Rotary 1010 district governor Jim Hatter.
