Inverurie street comes together for Jubilee party

In March of this year Inverurie residents Joyce Bruce and Kit Pawson like many throughout the north-east had a little chat over a cup of coffee about holding a Platinum Jubilee Street Party and on Sunday afternoon it finally happened.

As Kit explained: "About 36 residents of Cuninghill Road toasted the Queen with a glass of "bubbles" and then sat down to a delicious afternoon tea.

"Music from the past seven decades was played and the feeling of a close community was inspiring.

"Laughter and a great sense of fun was there throughout the afternoon helped by the brilliant sunshine.

"Maeve and Joe McDowell completed the event with a selection of tunes on their fiddles -- finishing with Gin' I were where the Gadie rins, the National Anthem and Auld Lang Syne.
