You might have missed Bruce Springsteen at Murrayfield last month, but there’s still a chance to hear the glories of some American music at Inverurie Town Hall on June 24 at 7.30pm when Inverurie Orchestra will be performing their United in Music concert – featuring some of America’s best classical music.

Music to be played includes the well-known tunes of West Side Story by Leonard Bernstein and An American in Paris by George Gershwin.

But the main feature of the concert will be Florence Price’s first symphony, which weaves African American folk tunes into a classical symphony.

Price, who died in 1953, was the first African American woman to have a composition played by a major orchestra in America, although her work still remains relatively unknown.

Inverurie Orchestra includes players from throughout Aberdeenshire who come together to rehearse each week in Inverurie town.

They are conducted by Chris Gray and led by Aden Mazur and have received support from the National Lottery Community Fund to put together this concert event.

Tickets are selling fast, but can be purchased from Ticket Source at https://www.ticketsource.co.uk/inverurie-orchestra
