THERE was a silver theme to Inverurie Choral Society's summer concert in the Acorn Centre in Inverurie on Saturday.

There were silvery tops and silver jewellery worn by the lady members marking the society's 25th anniversary and the concert opened with The Silver Swan.

There was something for all tastes in their varied programme ranging from medleys from Les Miserables and Titanic, a Ukrainian folk song to nearer home Gin I were where Gadie rins and the Mingulay boat song.

The choir has been preparing for this concert throughout the Spring under the baton of musical director Faith Ockwell who is also musical director with Kemnay's Spectrum singers.

Faith, originally from Seattle joined the society last August.

Her constant companion is Teddy, clearly a doggie with a musical ear who enjoys attending rehearsals and concerts and which she calls her loyal co-director.

She has been an inspiration to the singers with a broader highly original approach to their repertoire.

After her degree in music education from Pacific Lutheran university she took her masters degree in musicology and composition from Aberdeen university.

At the performance the choir was accompanied by organist Matthew McVey.

Brought up in the north of England and the highlands he is organist at St Marys Episcopal Church, associate organist at St Andrews cathedral and senior organ scholar at Kings College chapel.

Their new season starts on Wednesday, August 30 and new-comers, especialy male singers are most welcome as they work towards the Christmas concert on Saturday, December 9.
