THE minister at Insch-Leslie-Premnay-Oyne Parish Church had a Royal day out last week.

The Reverend Rev Dr Kay Gauld was a guest at Westminster Abbey where Her Royal Highness The Duchess of Cambridge hosted the “Together At Christmas Community Carol Service" which was also attended by the Duke of Cambridge and other members of the Royal Family.

The aim of the service was two fold - to pay tribute to some of the many individuals who have gone above and beyond in supporting their communities during the pandemic and also for people for whom this Christmas may be particularly challenging.

During the pandemic the Rev Dr Kay Gauld was pivotal in the Insch community response, setting up a food kitchen and ensuring the people isolating or shielding were supported.

More recently, she wasted no time in mobilising community volunteers to help people affected by the extended loss of electricity following Storm Arwen.

As well as carrying out her ministerial duties, she has also been a volunteer Padre to ATC Huntly Squadron 1298 for almost seventeen years.

Following the service, Rev Dr Kay Gauld said: “I felt greatly honoured to have been invited to attend this very special service and the music, the readings, the contributions from the choir and guests, and the setting all made for the most magical and memorable experience.”

The candlelit service included contributions from singers Leona Lewis and Ellie Goulding; readings by HRH The Duke of Cambridge, Kate Garraway, poet Lemn Sissay and British Paralympian and junior doctor Kim Daybell.

A message was delivered by The Venerable Tricia Hillas, Canon Steward and Archdeacon of Westminster and children lit candles during the prayers.

The carol service will be broadcast on ITV at 7.30pm on Christmas Eve.
