A LOCAL instructor has shared how Pilates helped her out of a period where she was “very poorly, mentally and physically”.
Rachael Plowman, from Insch, operates Lengthen Pilates from a studio on Bogie Street in Huntly and hosts classes at Gartly Community Hall.
Pilates improved her balance, strength and flexibility, she said, which made a huge difference to her life during a very difficult period.
“I was just very poorly, mentally and physically,” she said.
“I had to drop out of university and it took a lot of work to become well.
“During that time I began physio and then progressed from that to Pilates.
“Pilates has really supported me through the ups and downs and still does today - as health is never linear.”
Rachael, moved to Insch in 2019, is now a qualified teacher of Body Control Pilates, a form of the exercise designed to be accessible.
She said that her “wonderful teacher” meant she “fell in love” with the variety of Pilates she now teaches.
“I love to keep up with learning and continue to take courses to develop my teaching and knowledge,” she said.
“Pilates helped me become more aware of my body, manage pain and be stronger in a more balanced way as well as improving my flexibility.
“From a mental health viewpoint, it gives me time away from mental chatter.
“You have to concentrate, plus you get the boost of endorphins at the end along with a quieter mind and a feeling of ease.”
Rachael’s Gartly classes - which can be booked online by emailing: lengthen-pilates@outlook.com - are 50 mins long, at 5.50pm and 6.50pm.
She encouraged those interested in Pilates to come try a class or a discounted private session.
There is also a special two-to-one offer available until the end of April.
