The summer sun shone down on thousands of visitors to this year's Turriff Show on Sunday as the crowds packed the site for the first of two days of action.

Sunday is given over to equestrian events with the breed championships which lead into the in-hand and ridden champion selections.

Outside of the main showring there is also judging of the fur and feathers, dog show and the goats and donkeys.

But the Turriff Show has evolved over the years, to encompass so much more, with exhibitors from a wide range of companies, producers, public bodies and charities all taking part.

One of the big draws is the extensive food and drink offering, where local and national producers head to show their wares to an appreciative audience.

It also provides an opportunity for practical demonstration at the QMS Cookery Theatre which this year welcomed a superb butchery demonstration with Gary Raeburn, lunch ideas from Chef Ross Cochrane and a demonstration from The Kilted Chef Craig Wilson followed by north east's popular fish expert of Amity and Trawlermen TV programme Jimmy Buchan.

The wonderful Chef Catriona Frankitti also worked using Scottish produce.

Sunday also offers local crafters and bakers a showcase window with hundreds of entries in this years Industrial Section, ranging from tea-time treats to knitted displays.

And local growers didn't miss out either, and while some sections were lower in entries - a sign of the dry summer, others saw a boost from the recent warm weather.

In the show ring there was fun and games to be had as well, with races taking place, the sulky trot heats and this year's headline act the team from Stuntworld International who wowed the crowds with their two wheeled display which included jumping over a cement lorry!

Turriff Show president Kevin Gray said: "The show hosts more than 1500 exhibitor classes, including cattle, sheep, horses and ponies, goats, rabbits, cavies, dogs and pigeons, plus industrial and craft classes for skills including baking, vegetable growing and flower arranging.

"We are delighted to be hosting two national shows this year, the Aberdeen-Angus Cattle Show and the Scottish Ryeland Sheep Show.

"Thank you to Angus Stovold who will be judging the Aberdeen-Angus, Tom Redmayne who will be judging the Scottish Ryeland and to all the exhibitors and judges that travel from near and far to partake in the show.

"We are thrilled this year to boost the EQ Food and Drink Marquee, showcasing local gins, fruit, ice-cream, homebakes, vegetables, farm meats and much more.

"A very special thanks to Gail Greig who has made a magnificent job of taking the reins as show secretary, following the retirement of Helen Paterson and her husband Ron.

"Thanks also to senior vice-president David Allan, junior vice-president John Ledingham and to Ricky Mackie and staff for their help in setting up and tidying up the show.

"Turriff Show could not be brought together each year without the dedication and hard work of the agricultural community and committee that make it happen.

"There is nothing more heartwarming on the day than seeing everyone with a smile on their face and enjoying all Turriff Show has to offer."
