Performance car owners from across the north-east headed out to Inverurie on Sunday morning to take part in an annual fundraiser in aid of Alzheimer's Research.

The Drive for June event is held at Fennel Restaurant in the town by business owner William Bird in honour of his late mother June and brings together owners for a gathering in the town centre, before a run to the coast.

Generous support saw the event raise £2550, bring the total raised for the charity to over £17,000 since its inception.

Commenting William said: "As always there are so many thank you notes required for this morning event, not least for the team who always turn up ready to rock this event.

"Massive thank you also goes to the Inverurie fire service volunteers for giving up more of your precious time.

"All the car clubs and everyone who came along to enjoy and support us have raised a whopping £2550 so far with donations still coming in, taking the total for our Drive for June events to over £17,000.

"We’d set a fairly modest target for this year at £1000 so you’ve smashed that, this is a fantastic legacy for a great woman, and a major contribution to the research that will one day find a breakthrough to a cure for this cruel disease."
