Camille is looking for a new owner.

An almost unique commercial vehicle is currently up for sale in Aberdeenshire, offering a business, or private owner the opportunity to own a 1951 Citroen Type 23 Truck fondly known as ‘Camille’.

Edward Riley of Ted Riley Classics who are acting as agents for the sale said: "I first met Camille some years ago in a customers shed, where she had been stored for some years with minimal use.

"He was moving house at the time and needed to sell her as he wouldn’t have space at his new property.

"He had purchased Camille in February 2008 to use for advertising, but this never came to fruition.

"He asked me to sell her for him which I did and the next owner who purchased her in October 2021, who has a collection of classic vehicles spent a considerable amount of time and money getting her to the condition you see now.

"I have traced the UK ownership back to the early 1990’s and I have a record of every owner since."

He continued: "The current owner has carried out a lot of work including but not limited to, removing the back body in order to inspect and paint the chassis, new wood on the side boards, a fresh coat of paint on the cab inside and out in dark green, new rear lights and indicators with all new wiring at the rear end, overhaul of the brake system including a rebuilt brake master cylinder and wheel cylinders all round, carburettor re-build with fresh gaskets etc and a full service on the engine.

"Although there isn’t an awful lot of history with Camille, there is an interesting story that has been passed down from owner to owner that she was used by the German government after the second world war.

"After doing my own research I found that nothing went to waste in the aftermath of WW2, vehicles included, I imagine she was purchased/requisitioned when new by either the French or German government to help with the clean-up operation in Europe which apparently lasted until well into the 50s."

On the machine he continued: "The 1360cc petrol engine runs well, she has been serviced and maintained well in present ownership.

"I recently drove her to a near by car show covering some 60+ miles and she performed beautifully, always receiving attention as she was driving along, she would make for an excellent and eye-catching advertisement vehicle.

"Camille is in good condition, ready provide the new owner with as much enjoyment as she did the last.

"Please get in touch with any questions or to arrange a viewing/ test drive - we are located near Aberchirder and we can sort UK wide delivery or you can simply drive her away.

"The owner is open to a swap for another classic vehicle, he is into everything so please let me know if you have a swap offer of comparable value."
