The goal was to kick out mental health stigma, but the real prize at a recent football match in Turriff was raising over £11,000 for charity.

Turriff businesses Chapman Electrical and Ardinn Homes teamed up to host the charity match in the Haughs with hopes of opening up conversations around mental health and doing their part to remove the stigma attached to struggling with mental health, especially in men.

While the final score of the match was 4-1, with Chapman Electrical taking the glory, the final score for the charities was £11,243.38.

As well as watching the football, visitors could enjoy a number of stalls including jubilee themed colouring, beat the goalie, bouncy castles and an opportunity to learn more about the work of the charities who would be receiving the money raised.

Those football enthusiasts who had attended Turriff Youth FC's Festival Of Sport event in the morning and were making a day of it in the sunshine were able to enjoy an array of food options, including chips, candy floss and ice cream

“The amount of money raised went way beyond our expectations,” said Darren Findlay of Chapman Electrical.

“We hadn’t really set a target we just hoped to raise as much as possible, and the final total smashed it out of the park.”

“We’d like to say a huge thanks to everyone who supported this event,” said Ryan Morrison of Ardinn Homes.

“That includes other businesses, friends, family and the many, many members of the community who came along to cheer us on.

"We couldn’t have achieved what we did without them.”
