One of the highlights which drew much comment and attention was the display of WW1 dioramas and figures from John (Ian) Brotherston from Thurso.

Started as a personal project at the start of lockdown, the large scale figures were originally intended to be for display case exhibition only, but John decided to create scenes using real life inspiration.

He explained: "The first one that I created was based on a postcard my grandfather sent home when he was in the 2nd Battalion Royal Scots which opened with the line 'Dear Mother, we are staying at a lovely little farmhouse.'

"Later in the war Captain Bruce Bairsfather of the Royal Warkishires penned a set of cartoons, one of which depicts an soldier standing in ruins which is caption 'At present we are staying in a farm', so I used that to describe my grandfathers accomodation in the scene."

Other scenes include Rev Captain Edward Mellish's actions in recovering the wounded that won him the VC, The 1914 Christmas Truce and the harrowing scene of Reginald Le Brun, a Canadian gunner at Passchendaele being the last man standing.

The next modelling event in the north-east takes place at the Kinloss and Forres Model Show at Moravia, North Road, Kinloss and which runs an October 8 and 9 from 10am-5pm.
