Alvah and Forglen Community Council held a successful community picnic at the weekend to commemorate the planting of woodland for The Queen's platinum jubilee.

The group were joined on the day by local residents, councillors and MP David Duguid as well as Lord Lieutenant Of Banffshire Andrew Simpson who shared a message from The Queen before unveiling a special commemorative plaque.

Entertainment was provided throughout the afternoon by Turriff Silver Band.

The woodland has been a real community effort with local residents joining to plant 2000 trees in March, and the plinth for the plaque was built and installed by members of nearby Aberchirder And District Men's Shed.

Thanks were extended to various people for their support in the formation of the woodland, including: BMF Group (Gordon Morrison); Treeline Forestry; Murray Sim; Christie Elite Nurseries; Woodland Trust; Brydock Windfarm; Deuchries Windfarm and Aberdeenshire Council.

Thanks were also extended to Willow Tea Room, Turriff Silver Band, Aberchirder And District Men's Shed, Tesco, Mountblairy Estate, Boyndie Trust, Alvah Hall, Alvah And Forglen Arts Group for their contributions to making the picnic possible.
