In Pictures: Aberdeen Angus Summer Nationals at Turriff

Aberdeen-Angus cattle from across the country travelled to Turriff Show for the Aberdeen Angus society's Summer National Show on Monday.

A busy showground welcomed around 70 competitors across a total of 15 categories judged by Angus Stovald from Shackleford in Surrey and saw wins for both local and far travelled competitors.

Taking both the overall breed champion and male champion title was Caroline Morton from Dunfermline, with Kilmallie Juggernaut Eric, an April 22 bull by Hf Rebel out of Kilmallie Jury Eric taking the breed title and which would go on to take the interbreed young bull title later in the afternoon and adding to a string of titles already picked up this year including Breed Champion at West Fife, Junior Champion at the Highland and reserve overall at the Great Yorkshire Show.

The reserve overall breed champion and female champion title was Carbery Urban Boss (Imp) a January 2021 female with first natural calf at foot by Rawburn Boss Hogg N630 out of Rosscarbery Lady Hawaii shown by Brailes Livestock from Moreton in Marsh.

In the bull classes there were wins for Norman Belfield of Macclesfield with Daneside Bombadier; C & E McCombie from Huntly with Auchincrieve Eric and Caroline Morton from Dunfermline with Kilmallie Juggernaut Eric.

Caroline picked up a win in the bull calf section with Keirsbeath Powerhouse and there was a win for Ballindalloch Home Farm with Ballindalloch Gunshot.

Female with calf at foot sections went to G & F Willox, Oldmeldrum with Cardenwell Miss Blossom and Cardenwell Iona and Brailes Livestock, Moreton in Marsh with Carbery Urban Boss.

The female born in 2021 was awarded to Ballindalloch Home Farm with Ballindalloch Pam by Ballindalloch Earl out of Ballindalloch Pev.

Heifer wins went to Daniel Cooke of Bolton with Stephick Emilie and Mark Wattie, Alford with Tonley Fiona.

Heifer calf winners were AJR Farms, Ellon with Logie Eyebright which also claimed the overall calf champion and Alan Rennie, Forfar with Mosston Muir Eva.

Commenting on his selection, judge Angus Stovald said: "The champion and the reserve had all the right breed characteristics and are exactly what the breed needs to be doing.

"A tremendous head on the bull and good on his feet with tremendous fleshing and there is very few faults with him, he's an extremely well presented Aberdeen Angus bull.

"It was a very close thing with that cow, as that cow is a two year old, with calf at foot, and its about production and she's kept tremendous fleshing and is a wonderful example of the Angus breed."
