In Pictures: A day to remember - Her Majesty's visit to the 150th Anniversary of Turriff Show in 2014

The Turriff Show has had many illustrious guests over the years but 2014 marked a special occasion, when on the 150th anniversary, Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth was the guest of honour.

The north-east agricultural event which the largest two-day event of its kind in the country saw the Queen arrive by helicopter from Balmoral on the second day of the show.

Eager to take in the many elements of the show she carried out a tour of the show’s food fayre where was presented with a hamper of local produce, took part in Aberdeen and District Beekeepers’ Association’s ‘find the queen bee’ challenge, discussed the floral competition entries with renowned grower Dennis Simpson and also met Raymond Irvine who was showing his now famous Valais Blacknose sheep for the very first time.

The Queen presented the show’s Champion of Champions award to M Bruce and Partners Ltd’s Balmaud Eclipse, a British Charolais cow.

Saw was later piped into the Homecoming Tent by Turriff and District Pipe Band Major Bill Hepburn where she signed the visitors book.
