Aberdeen’s iconic Big Letters in Union Terrace Gardens have just been given a sprinkling of magic fairy dust with a panto-themed design, inspired by Sleeping Beauty at His Majesty’s Theatre (HMT) and now there is a chance to win a family ticket to next year’s HMT panto.

The glittering new theme was officially unveiled by the show’s Spirit Of Pantomime herself (played by local star Danielle Jam) with the help of Princess Aurora (Jemma Ferries) and Prince Angus (Michael Karl-Lewis).

Casting a spell to bring the letters to life in time for official national Panto Day on Friday, the Spirit (well, Danielle) said: “I think the letters look so magical and glittery and it really just adds some beautiful Christmas magic to the gardens. And speaking of magic we're performing Sleeping Beauty at His Majesty’s Theatre, so come along.”

The Aberdeen letters have been hugely popular since they were introduced to the city by Aberdeen Inspired, and this latest theme will be on display during the run of the sensational Sleeping Beauty which is at HMT until Sunday, January 7.

The facade of His Majesty's will also be lit up in the Sleeping Beauty colours of pink and purple, with added sparkles, to mirror the display on the letters.

Panto fans are now being invited to pop down to letters to take selfies with the spectacular display before (or after) going to see Sleeping Beauty, which this year stars Gary: Tank Commander, alongside HMT panto legends Alan McHugh and PJ Corrigan.

And to add to the magic of the season, Aberdeen Inspired is offering the chance to win a family ticket for four people to see next year’s giant pantomime at His Majesty’s Theatre, Jack And The Beanstalk.

For the opportunity to win this great prize, take a selfie with the panto-themed letters, then share your magical image on social media, tagging Aberdeen Inspired (@abdninspired) and Aberdeen Performing Arts (Instagram - @aberdeenperformingarts; Twitter - @APAWhatsOn; TikTok - @apawhatson and for Facebook at His Majesty’s Theatre and Aberdeen Performing Arts)

The at Aberdeen Inspired will choose one image at random and the lucky winners can look forward to seeing Jack And The Beanstalk with their family next Christmas.

The prize is for a family ticket for two adults and two children for the 1pm performance on Sunday December 1, 2024 with the winner announced shortly after Sleeping Beauty bows out of His Majesty’s on Sunday, January 7 when this great competition closes.
