Friends of Jubilee Hospital are forging ahead with a plan to ensure that patients enjoy some festive treats.

Group members have put their heads together to work out how to lay on some special events and ensure everyone stays safe.

Usually they would have arranged a party and concert but with that ruled out they have commissioned a DVD featuring local entertainers and will deliver hampers of party food for patients instead.

In recent weeks, in some windswept locations, local man Bruce Murray has filmed, singers, dancers, piping and people reciting poetry.

The Huntly Quines, Liz Brown, Rosemary Cowe and Moira Watson had to sing outside to meet regulations and were hosted in the grounds of the Castle Hotel where three dancers from the Jessiman School also put on a display.

Steve Brown was filmed piping at Huntly Castle.

Douglas McKenzie and Maureen Ross were recorded reading poetry, including Doric works by Huntly Machar, the late Margaret Grant and local poet, Phyllis Goodall.

The whole 30 minute programme is compered by Jenny Smith.

Fiona Murray who is chairman of the group said:”The video can be shown and enjoyed over and over again by patients and their families. It’s all local talent and kind of couthy.

“We will share it with local nursing homes and people in sheltered housing can watch it with their families if it’s on You Tube.

“We are really indebted to Mr Murray for the time he has given freely to make this happen.”

The group has an unusual fundraiser courtesy of a local craftswoman.

A lovely knitted winter scene is the prize in a draw which is being run via the Friends of Jubilee Facebook page and will culminate on their stall at the Farmers Market on December 5 where knitted items also donated will be sold.
