Talented apprentice Lucy Buckley received the British and International Greenkeepers Award for her work in her SVQ Level 2 course in Sports Turf Greenkeeping.

Lucy (22) was nominated for the award by her lecturers at Scotland's Rural College (SRUC) Elmwood, who recognised her hard work and dedication. She joined the team at Huntly Golf Club in February 2022, and was inspired to follow in the footsteps of her family.

She said: "I've been doing it for years since I was 13 or 14, my dad was a greenkeeper, and my uncle is a greenkeeper. He's also my boss here at Huntly Golf Club. It's something I've always wanted to do, and it's great to have the opportunity here."

Despite her family background, Lucy expressed her surprise at winning the award. "I didn't really expect the win, but I was really happy to find out I'd won it. It's a nice feeling to be recognized for the work I've put in.

"My family is mega proud of me, and everyone at the golf club has been so supportive."
