Ellie and Martyn Turner have had a number of fundraising initiatives for the charity based around the three symbols which represent dementia - elephants, forget-me-nots and the colour purple.

But a silent auction for a beautiful picture of an elephant that has been created by local artist, Dorothy Anderson will continue until the end of the month.

Ellie said: "Dorothy has donated this fabulous piece and Ian Denham has framed it free of charge too. It will be sold to the highest bidder in the silent auction but to give folk the chance to take a good look at this beautiful piece of art, bidding won't close until 4pm on Saturday, October 30."

Colouring in sheets of the elephant picture have been provided free of charge by the Digital Croft and are available to buy from the Ethical Gift Shop for a donation of 50p.

On Saturday there is a raffle for over 20 very generous prizes donated from people in Huntly and beyond.

Tickets are £1 each and will be on sale until 4pm after which the draw will take place.

Ellie has been busy crocheting and selling various “Forget-Me-Not” related items – cards, brooches, bookmarks and keyrings.

She also ran a series of crochet classes and made cards which have been coloured in by pupils from various local primary schools.

As well as organising the fundraising events, Ellie has crocheted various items which have been donated into a local nursing home as well as the one in Gloucester where her Mum, who suffers from dementia, lives.

Karen Cowie has been busy making face masks from a beautiful purple tartan fabric which have been selling well at £5 with all proceeds to the fund.

A series of bi-monthly quiz sheets has been created which will have monetary prizes. The first of the quizzes will be available from Saturday at various locations around Huntly.

Ellie said: "We want to say a big thank you to all who have supported us with this year’s fundraiser, they have been absolutely fantastic. Good luck to everyone with the raffle, auction and quizzes."

There are over 200 types of dementia, a disease which affects the brain, shrinking it and causing symptoms such as memory loss, communication difficulties, behavioural changes and loss of motor skills. Dementia UK operates a 24/7 helpline on 0800 888 6678 or e mail to helpline@dementiauk.org.
