The annual event, ran by Huntly Community Council (HCC), will award prizes in four categories to recognise the town's wealth of horticultural talent.

Entries have now opened for the competition and gardeners have until Wednesday, July 26 to get involved.

This year's competition will recognise the area's best garden, the best hanging baskets or tubs and the best first time entrant.

A community garden category will also reward the dedicated efforts of local volunteers.

HCC chairman Tony Gill said: "We're hoping with the recent fine weather and gardens being, for many, an extension to their homes to enjoy, it would be good to see the traditional and innovative ways gardens have been transformed."

Gardens within the HCC Ward Area are eligible to join the contest.

The ward boundaries span the area within the Deveron and Bogie Rivers and the A96 Bypass.

Anybody can nominate a local garden, or residents can self-nominate.

Nominations can be submitted to HCC at huntlycommunitycouncil@googlemail.com or dropped off at the Brander Library by Wednesday, July 26.

Judging will take place on Sunday, July 30 with the winners notified thereafter.
