Huntly gift shop owners over the moon with £1674 raised for Dementia UK

OVER £1600 has been raised for Dementia UK by a local business and it hasn't stopped its money spinners yet.

Throughout October, the Ethical Gift Shop and Refillery held a series of events to raise money for the charity with a climax at the end of the month when a draw for a massive 59 raffle prizes was held.

Ellie Turner who runs the business with her husband Martyn said: "The amazing generosity of the good folk of Huntly has raised an astounding £1674.18 for Dementia UK, a specialist dementia nurse charity. Their nurses, called Admiral Nurses, provide life-changing care and support for families affected by dementia."

Mrs Turner thanked everyone for their support but singled out Gordon and Helen Robson of Milton Garage, and the Royal Oak who generously donated money.

She added: "We’d also like to say a very special thank you to Karen Cowie whose energy and enthusiasm knows no bounds.

"The fabulous dementia elephant painting by Dorothy Anderson, and framed free of charge by Ian Denham was put up for silent auction and raised £177."

"The Digital Croft did all our printing free of charge, Huntly Crafters hosted a fundraising stall for us at their craft fair in November and The Honesty Bakehouse baked some delicious fundraising elderberry sponge cakes."

Local businesses Sara Mann Hair Salon, Firth of Forth Craft, Bozeys, The Buckie Pottery Company, The Lady of the Forest, and Upcycle Annee all contributed prizes for the raffle which was drawn at the grand finale by by Fiona Alderson from Networks of Wellbeing.

Fundraising will continue in the new year and various events planned are already planned details will be on the shop's – Facebook and Instagram pages.

Last year, Ellie and Martyn raised £1200 for Breast cancer Now.
