Huntly Highland dancer steps up for royal appointment in Platinum Jubilee show at Windsor Castle

A TEENAGER from Huntly is set to take centre stage in a show at Windsor Castle tonight which is part of the Platinum Jubilee celebrations and will be watched by The Queen and leading members of the Royal Family.

Brogan Martin is a member of the dance company for a 'Gallop Through History'

The 90 minute show, in front of an audience of 5000 continues each night until Sunday when it will be broadcast live on ITV to millions of people.

It is taking place in the same arena used for the Windsor Horse Show and features over 500 horses, in equestrian displays, and 1300 performers - actors and artists, musicians, international military displays from the commonwealth, Europe and UK armed forces, Highland Dancers, pipe bands.

Brogan's invite came due to her links with the Royal Edinburgh Military Tattoo Highland Dancers and during rehearsals recently at Dreghorn Barracks she was selected to be in the front row of the 50 strong troupe.

Brogan (18) said she was absolutely over the moon to be asked.

She said: "It's an honour to be part of something so special and historic.

Brogan has danced since she was two years old and has travelled the world due to Highland Dancing - at just 16 she took part in the Australian Military tattoo.

She works at a childcare centre in Insch but spends all her spare time dancing.

She who has over 100 championship titles - Scottish, European, Commonwealth, Paris, Canadian and British and has been in the World Championship line up.

After a long lay off due to the pandemic, she recently won the European Championship in Ireland and the City of Aberdeen Confined Championship and will represent Aberdeenshire in the the Oban Highlands and Islands area finals.

Her sister Tilly (15) and brother Bailey (13) are both also dancers.

Later in the year, Brogan and Tilly will dance at tattoos in Belgium, Hamburg and Denver Colorado.

Since travelling south last weekend, Brogan has been staying in accommodation in the grounds of Windsor Castle with other performers.
