Huntly couple celebrate their 65th wedding anniversary

There was a packed house full of family and friends on Wednesday morning as Huntly couple Tommy and Rosella Christie celebrated their 65th wedding anniversary.

Both hailing from Huntly, Tommy (86) and Rosella (83) met at a Christmas Carnival dance at the Stewart's Hall in the town and subsequently went on to get married at Strathbogie Church on February 28, 1959.

A career in teaching beckoned for Tommy and he spent many years teaching maths and computing predominantly in Huntly and his footballing skills in his younger years also saw him play in the Highland League for Huntly and Keith and also Turriff before they moved in thier pre-league years.

Rosella worked in various offices over the years and with two sons, Bruce and Neil who sadly passed away in 2022, they found themselves living in several towns over the years including Turriff, before an eventual return to Huntly for their retirement.

Helping them celebrate their Blue Sapphire anniversary, a special afternoon tea was held at home for the couple, with a centre-piece celebratory cake created by Jenna Christie, one of their three grand-children, who owns Christie's Cake Creations of Huntly.

Reflecting on their time together over the 65 years the pair said: "It's about being there for each other through the good and bad."
