LOCAL Councillor Gwyneth Petrie has called in the MP for Gordon to try to save Christmas for dozens of families in Huntly.

MP Richard Thomson has been enlisted to tackle delivery company Hermes over concerns that they are not currently able to deliver to areas in Huntly.

Numerous families have taken to social media to share their concerns over the non delivery of parcels containing Christmas gifts.

The company has told some people that delivery of their parcel was attempted but they dispute this, others have had refunds from the company from which they ordered but many are in limbo not knowing if their item will arrive and unable to buy a replacement.

MP Richard Thomson says Hermes should haver a plan in place to deal with job vacancies.

Richard Thomson said: “Staff come and go and people change jobs but it is incumbent on a company providing a delivery service to have a back-up plan in place for such eventualities, even if that means sub-contracting the work to another company while a recruitment process is underway.

“My constituents have paid for a service and are entitled to expect to receive it, particularly at this time of year when many will be shopping online due to worries about travelling and mixing with crowds.

“I have asked Hermes management to let me know what exactly they will be doing to ensure no one in Huntly or the surrounding area is let down and doesn’t receive their goods.”

Councillor Petrie added: “I’ve had a great many people getting in touch saying they are concerned and getting no word from Hermes as to what is happening with their deliveries or where they are.

“I’m grateful to Richard for stepping in and hope that Hermes will now put this right for the people of Huntly.”

A call to Hermes for a quote received an automated response.
