A HUNTLY butcher’s steak pies have struck gold at this year's Scottish Craft Butchers Awards.
Forbes Raeburn – based on Bogie Street – won gold in the traditional steak pie category after being selected by a panel of food experts and critics at heats in Dunfermline.
The awards were handed out at the Laichmoray Hotel in Elgin. Forbes Raeburn beat off competition from more than 190 entrants with their pies, which were tested on appearance, flavour, filling and appeal.
The pies are made by Kathleen Raeburn, who owner Charles Raeburn gave all the credit to.
"We are delighted with the award," he said. "Kathleen has been making steak pies for a couple of years and is delighted to get the award. We are fair chuffed her hard work has been rewarded.
"We always knew we had a good pie, the customers like them, and now we know they are worthy of a gold medal.
"We have had a good response from customers, who have been flying through the door since the award.
"The local community is good and we are well supported, which makes a big difference.
"It's a big boost for us at this time of year ahead of Christmas and New Year, when pies are big thing in this part of the world."
Simon Coles, sales manager of the category’s sponsor The Dalesman Group, presented Gary Raeburn with the award.
Mr Coles said: “To be crowned champion in this category truly demonstrates the ongoing commitment to providing consistent, high quality products to customers.
“We would like to thank all those who took part and congratulate all the winners.”
