A WEALTH of free items are ready and waiting for next weekend's baby bank open day in Huntly's Stewart's Hall.

The event, from 10am to 1pm on Saturday, March 30, "promises to be our biggest one yet", said organiser Kayleigh Nicholls from Gordon Rural Action (GRA).

With the baby bank preparing for a huge renovation and the creation of a new, bigger space, she added, the charity wanted to give away as much as possible.

Items available include a wide range of clothes and accessories, even expensive prams.

Anyone can come to the open day and take whatever they need, with the only rule that items should be returned in good condition and not sold on.

The service, during renovation works, will be based at the back of GRA's building at 55 Gordon Street.

Ms Nicholls emphasised that the baby bank will continue operating as normal, taking donations and receiving requests through their website.

"The event is an open invitation to the community to come along, see our stock and take what they need," she added.

"This is an opportunity to save your purse and the planet."

She also paid tribute to the volunteers who will be setting up and helping at the event.

Last year's event saw more than 100 people attend, receiving a huge number of items, saving them cash and stopping items going to landfill.

"Our dedicated team of volunteers will be setting up for the event and helping people on the day," Ms Nicholls said.

"We are so grateful for their support during these events and during the preparations for the renovations.

"We have a huge stock of baby items and our team has worked tirelessly sorting these for our events and to fill the regular and consistent orders we get at the baby bank (usually averaging 15 plus per week) .

"We also want to thank the local community for their donations and support, without these donations we wouldn't be able to put on these events or support families with baby items."
