Hundreds flock to Huntly family day hosted by Gordon Rural Action

A FAMILY day hosted by Gordon Rural Action (GRA) was one of the biggest indoor events in Huntly’s recent history, according to the charity.

The event in March saw more than 300 people visit the Linden Centre to enjoy family entertainment and hear from a wide range of community groups about their work.

Organiser Kayleigh Nicholls, from GRA, said the event was a great way to show off the “brilliant things we have going on in the town”.

Rosie Hislop won the scavenger hunt, netting her a voucher for the Nordic Ski Centre and a meeting with The Ice Queen.

Groups attending included the Wee Toots nursery group, Happy Little Tunes, Hammers of War Huntly, the Schools Out childcare centre and the Huntly Library.

Also on offer was a scavenger hunt competition with a top prize donated by the Huntly Nordic Ski Centre, along with organised workshops and activities.

Asda Foundation funded half of the event, which included free food, drink and entertainment.

Huntly’s JP the DJ provided a sound system for the family day, with local businesses contributing plenty of raffle prizes.

“One of the Linden Centre staff said this was one of the biggest and busiest indoor events the town had seen for years,” Ms Nicholls said.

“It was a great way for the community to see the services and support we have in the area and learn how to access these while having a free day out.

“Thanks to the Asda foundation who funded half of the event we were able to provide free food, drink and entertainment to everyone who came along.

“Lots of local business and groups got behind the event donating prizes or things to help the event.”
