The society's Joan Bruce explained: "The Garioch Heritage Society are currently creating a temporary exhibition which will, hopefully, allow people to gain a fascinating insight into the quality and diversity of our costume archive.

"This constitutes an important part of the Society's collection which is currently seldom seen, as exposure to light could seriously compromise the condition of the older and more fragile pieces in particular.

"For this reason that we have taken the decision to utilise our downstairs gallery, which is normally used for visiting exhibitions, to create a display area where the artefacts will not be put at risk of damage."

She continued: "Our permanent collection will be further enhanced by the inclusion of clothing from more recent decades which were not hitherto regarded as worthy of inclusion in a heritage setting.

"This has been done in recognition of the fact that, by doing so, it becomes more relevant and inclusive through appealing to a broader range of age groups.

"A young volunteer noted that his concept of "vintage" is items from the seventies, eighties and even the nineties and this is an interesting and relevant perspective."

The exhibition opens on July 15 and run through to September 3.

The cost of entry will be £5 and £3 for concessions.

Packages will also be available incorporating light lunches and afternoon teas for both individuals and groups.

A fundraising fashion show is also scheduled to take place in the early Autumn based on the themes of the displays.
