A Clothes Swap, organised by the Gartly Community Association (GCA), is taking place on July 1 at Square Deal from 9am to 1pm.

Coinciding with monthly Huntly Farmer's Market, the event encourages people to walk in with one item of clothing and to walk out with another.

The slogan for the event is "help save the planet and your purse".

GCA secretary Lynn Rutter said the free event, Huntly's third Clothes Swap, was an alternative to "fast fashion" and will stop clothes going to landfill.

"The idea is that anyone can bring along clothes, which are clean and in good condition that they no longer love and wear, and take away something else," she said.

"It's all free, with the aim of encouraging people to re-purpose things they don't need.

"Fast fashion is responsible for nearly 10 per cent of global carbon emissions and so much goes to landfills.

"Our slogan is: 'Help save the planet and your purse'.

The GCA is also planning to run a number of workshops on this theme.

More details will be coming soon.
