Drop-in session on the future of three north-east primary schools are set to take place in the coming weeks.

Clatt, Easterfield and Fisherford schools are all current mothballed with no pupils and as part of option appraisals which will be carried out over their potential permanenet closure, sessions will be held next month.

A drop-in session on the future of Fisherford School will take place on October 3 from 5pm until 6.15pm in the General Purpose Hall at Auchterless School, Auchterless.

A drop-in session on the future of Easterfield School will take place on October 3 from 6.45pm until 8pm in Community Room at Turriff Primary School, Turriff.

In May 2021, the decision was made to mothball the primary schools; Mothballing is a temporary closure when pupil numbers fall below a certain level.

There have been no requests for any new pupils to enrol since August 2021 and both schools have continued to be mothballed.

Aberdeenshire Council is now carrying out an Options Appraisal, which will consider all available information.

As part of this, it is important the community present their views at the meeting.

If you cannot attend you can email the Learning Estates Team at learningestates@aberdeenshire.gov.uk with any comments or queries.

The school is currently mothballed and no further applications for children to attend Clatt School have been made.

The survey will be open until October 6 and can be completed by more than one person in your household, including any children who wish to participate.

If you require a paper copy, please contact learningestates@aberdeenshire.gov.uk or phone 01771 676600 and an officer will assist with your request.

Officers will analyse feedback from the online survey and drop-in session, which will then inform further discussions on the future of Clatt School.

Aberdeenshire East MSP Gillian Martin has called on the local communities involved to respond to the events and said: “I would encourage the local communities to ensure their views are heard on the future of these primary schools.

“No new pupils have been enrolled and it is important that Aberdeenshire Council are now looking at next steps.

“Any one who wishes to have their say on this matter can do so, either by attending the drop-in sessions or getting in touch with the council directly.”
