A SPEYSIDE distillery will auction an exclusive whisky to raise funds for NHS Grampian and Moray causes.

Glenfiddich will produce 450 bottles of Glenfiddich 2007 (Cask No. 25427) Spirit of Speyside Distillery Edition 2020, hand-selected by malt master Brian Kinsman.

The limited edition bottles will be auctioned on whiskyauctioneer.com from June 17-22, with all proceeds going to local causes including Moray Food Plus, Keirans Legacy and NHS Grampian.

Glenfiddich sees the bottling as a fitting tribute to founder William Grant, who it says was regarded as a pillar of the local community more than 130 years ago, and always looked out for his craftsmen and community, often through tough times.

Struan Grant Ralph, Glenfiddich global brand ambassador, said: "The local community has been at the heart of Glenfiddich since 1887 when William Grant opened our distillery in Dufftown.

"We hope the release of the Spirit of Speyside Distillery Edition 2020 is a fitting tribute to William Grant and his legacy in the Speyside community."

Mr Kinsman hand-picked the whisky in honour of the annual Spirit of Speyside Festival, which is not running this year due to the pandemic. He will sign every 70cl hand-numbered bottle.

The whisky has spent the last 13 years maturing in the darkness of Glenfiddich’s Warehouse 26. Finished in a sherry cask, the whisky has been bottled at the unusually high strength of 65.7% ABV and is described as "silky smooth and sweet, with a rich citrus and cinnamon-infused apple fruitiness".
