LOCAL firm Glendeveron Taxis is celebrating a successful, albeit crazy, first year in business.

The newly-founded firm, which has two eight-seater busses, was set up by June Downie (52) and started out on December 5, 2019.

The aim was for most of the company's income to come through tours. However, due to the coronavirus pandemic that has not been the case.

Mrs Downie, who was a support worker before going on this business venture, explained: "The first year has been up and down.

"I was doing so well over December and January wasn't too bad.

"We were starting to build up the tour work and then covid-19 hit and we had to suspend everything, except taxis for key workers.

"Tour work was going to be our main source of income so we had to rethink the structure of the company."

Glendeveron Taxis aims to promote local and has many links in the community already.

This also benefits tourists, who may know less about the local area.

"We like to promote our own local area and promote local hotels for meals," June, who runs the firm with her husband Ian, added.

"One thing we have been doing that sets us apart from normal taxis is that we give holiday-makers a wee bit of extra history about the area.

"We had a couple with kids that were interested in the harbour so I took them round to see the boats at no extra cost. It's to promote what we have here."

The taxi firm is celebrating its one-year anniversary in style - with a competition on Facebook as well as a giveaway in the paper.
