Scotland’s premier ladies clay shooting group, north-east based Glad Rags and Cartridge Bags are renowned as the only shooting club in the UK to hold their events not at traditional shooting grounds but at fabulous, unique, locations, including private castles, estates, country houses and hotels.

Their latest event was at the fabulous Fasque House in Aberdeenshire the former home of Prime Minister William Gladstone who was in office for 12 years from 1868 – 1894.

Fasque House joins a long list of unrivalled locations that the ladies have visited over the last nine years, including Glamis Castle, His Majesties private estate Delnadamph for Glad Rags and Tiaras, Cluny Castle, Douneside House and Craigston Castle to name but a few.

Mhairi Morriss owner of Glad Rags Events and founder of Glad Rags and Cartridge Bags said: “This was our inaugural event at Fasque House, it really was everything and more.

"It oozes grandeur, the walls are steeped in history but it also unexpectantly has the feeling of a much-loved family home.”

The day began with the ladies being welcomed to roaring fires and a light breakfast.

A short walk past the private chapel took them to the events field.

Grouped according to their ability, they then enjoyed a morning of clay shooting instruction.

All abilities are very welcome on a Glad Rags and Cartridge Bags Day, from never held a gun before to the more experienced with their own guns.

All equipment is supplied to those that require it.

Having built up an appetite, it was back inside for a delicious grazing table lunch served by local caterers Sinclair’s. Guest speakers were from club sponsors Carrie Keenan from RBC Brewin Dolphin and Petra Grunenberg from Shepherd and Wedderburn.

The ladies were then treated to a twirl from two ladies from Country Ways showcasing what is in fashion for spring. The day ended after a wonderful, educational, entertaining tour of the house.

Linda Robb is a regular participant and always loves her days with the ladies: “I always enjoy my days out with Glad Rags and Cartridge bags. Mhairi puts so much effort into organising such an enjoyable and fun day.

"The venues are beautiful, and everyone is so friendly and welcoming.

"The instructors are great at teaching and outlining the importance of safety at each event.”

Mhairi is really looking forward to their next event which is at Craigston Castle on Sunday, May 14 and says it is going to be rather special.

She explains why: “A couple of months back on a dark cold winter evening I received a telephone call completely out of the blue from a lovely gentleman called Sandy.

"The love of his life Yasmin had sadly lost her battle from cancer two years ago but on her to do list was to join Glad Rags & Cartridge Bags to learn to shoot and be a Glad Ragger.

"So, in memory of this amazing woman our next event is now Glad Rags and Cartridge Bags at Craigston Castle in memory of Yasmin.

"Also, Craigston Castle has been the family home of the Urquhart’s since 1607 and we are very honoured that William Urquhart will be welcoming us personally on the 14th.”
