GIRLGUIDING Moray is set for its first ever virtual event in July amid the coronavirus pandemic.

Llama Fiesta will take place online on July 11 and 12 – with more than 130 individuals currently interested in taking part.

The online fiesta, which replaces a series of cancelled events, will mainly take place through Girlguiding Moray's Facebook group, but they will also be emailing those who want to get involved but don't have social media.

The event is suitable for all age ranges from Rainbows, who start at the age of four, to Trefoil Guild members.

Suzie Clark, who is helping organise the event, said: "Girlguiding Moray normally hosts a fun day for Rainbows and Brownies around this time of year which has unfortunately been cancelled due to coronavirus, and our camp for Guides and Rangers later in the year may, unfortunately, have the same fate.

"We thought why should the girls miss out on the fun? We can bring the fun to them. The event will include art and crafts activities, science projects, llama-themed food, dance tutorials as well as a few surprises we have up our sleeves.

"We have a great team who are working hard to create exciting and engaging activities for girls and their families to enjoy over the course of the camp.

"This is the first time we have organised an event of this scale from home so it's all new territory for us; from meetings on Zoom to online consent forms. Coronavirus has made us adapt to this new normal way of communicating.

"Hopefully the event will go off without any technical hitches and everyone will have a great time."

County commissioner Alison Williams, from Forres, said: "I felt we needed to keep our members engaged while we were in lockdown.

"The leaders have been amazing at keeping in touch via Facebook and Zoom, but the virtual camp came about with big events cancelled."

Louise Winder, county secretary, added: "The team are putting together an exciting programme of activities for all age groups.

"After coronavirus restrictions saw a number of key events cancelled, this has become a major event in the Girlguiding Moray calendar."

The camp is not limited to the Moray area – with interest from Tobermory to West Lanarkshire.

If you're interested in taking part, request to join the camp's private Facebook HERE.
