Getting creative at Grampian Opportunities in Inverurie

A COSY creative hub at Grampian Opportunities (GO) West High Street, Inverurie attracted visitors seeking to explore their artistic skills writes Griselda McGregor.

With snow showers outside the Arts and Crafts hub was a welcome destination.

Creative community worker Millie Farmer was guiding her pupils in the decoration of pillar candles.

Working from sketches they made the previous session the group chose their own designs to illustrate with acrylic paints.

A fourth year honours student at Grays school of art Millie said:: "We like using acryclics as it gives quick results - and dries fast."

Last month students were shown how to create interesting patterns with ink and bleach and had a go at cross stitch.

Millie continued:" No previous experience is necessary.

"I tell my students not to be afraid of art - you never know till you try."

Next week's meeting will have a Valentine theme with an introduction to abstract painting.

In March there will be charcoal drawing and will see Mother's Day featured and a two-part clay workshop.

There will also be charcoal drawing and Decoupage and the use of gouache and acrylic.

April's Easter theme will have her pupils making cards, paper basket weaving and Easter egg painting and an introduction to work with oils.
