Jason Banks of Garioch Indoor bowling Club features in World Indoor Championship at Potters in Suffolk this Saturday, January 14 at 10.30am.

Regrettably this is the first match in the tournament, and is not featured on BBC, who are setting up that evening writes Mike Barron.

He meets fellow Scot, Darren Weir, who now plays out of Ardrossan Club.

Darren has been capped for Scotland for the last three seasons, and is well known to Jason, who first appeared in Internationals in 2016, and every year since.

The winner at Potters will meet Simon Skelton (England) with Les Gillett, the 2022 World Champion, or Stuart Invin (England) waiting.

A very tough draw for Jason!

Elsewhere the Garioch bowling teams had one win, a draw, and then a defeat at the weekend

Garioch were in action at the weekend with a massive win against Arbroath.

The Garioch/Turriff ladies had an exciting draw, while the Scottish KO Top Ten lost out in round one to Arbroath, having been beaten finalists last year.

Saturday saw Garioch Gents win all four rinks by a margin of 62 shots, their biggest win this season.

Forfar were up against it from the first end.

They toiled, and even when they were lying shot Garioch skips still scored.

The score was Garioch 112, and the bottom of the league Forfar 50.

Garioch are undefeated in their matches so far, having played six, won six and 12 points.

At the weekend they meet Arbroath next, who have but one win so far.

Last time Garioch beat them 93-77.

Fraserburgh too had a win at the weekend, and are lying second with one loss on 10 points.

Garioch by their victory now have a plus shot difference of +154 to Fraserburgh’s +158, a difference of four.

Saturday’s win helped reduce the difference by winning by 62 shots, thus adding to their shots score in the league

With only tgree matches left it looks very like the last match could decide the title, and that is against Fraserburgh.

The Garioch/Turriff Ladies had a very exciting draw against Fraserburgh.

It was Sheila Reidford, Ann Mollison, Linda Harper with skip Liz Fraser who saved the day.

They thrashed the opposition 30-11, a difference of 19 shots.

It was just as well as the other two rinks lost. Glenys Bolt lost 12-28.

The rink was always struggling.

Carla Banks had a close game.

There were never more than three shots of a difference.

She lost 19-22.

The last 10 minutes of the match all were calculating the overall score.

The last bowl of the match could have made a difference.

Garioch were satisfied with the draw of 61-61.

Fraserburgh were shattered with 2 of 3 rinks winning.

Could Garioch go one better and win the Scottish Top Ten this year?

Minus Jason Banks, who was at the World Championship, they won two rinks, but lost 2 with 52 points against 54 against Arbroath on Sunday.

They had lost in the first round this year.

James McDougall lost the Singles 10-21, with Linda Harper and Stuart Buist losing 9-13 in the Pairs.

The Triples were comfortable winners 17- 7.

Liam Beattie, Carla Banks with skip Colin Banks had the opposition fighting to score.

All three played well!

Sheila Reidford was part of two wins over the weekend in the Fours this time.

She led, Lucy Willox was second, then Gary McDonald and Steve Buchanan.

They won 16-13.

The count back of scores had Garioch on 52 shots against Arbroath 54. Garioch were out!

This is a tremendous disappointment to Garioch as they had a magic route to the final last year winning five rounds.

In the 2022 semi-finals they beat Ardrossan 5-3, but came unstuck against West Lothian losing 2 points to 6.

They won Singles 21-18, lost Pairs unluckily 15-16, lost

Triples 8-17 and Fours 6-20.

A great run and so near!
