In all other team competitions the team with the best aggregate score wins, but in Scottish Cup it is 2 points for a rink win and 2 points for the

overall score, writes Mike Barron.

Regrettably “G & T” only won only one rink to Balbardie’s 3 with final score 4-6.

They lost 2 rinks by 1 and 2 shots.

So so near!

This was without Carol Stuart and Lyn Ronald of Turriff, who were on holiday.

They with Liz Fraser were beaten semi-finalists in the Scottish Triples early this year.

Glenys Bolt (T ) with Angela Banks (G) and Ivy Ross (G) in rink 1 was never behind.

They were 10-5 up at 10th ,and kept a comfortable lead to win 14-7.

Linda Harper (G) had a poor start, and was 5 down after 2 ends.

By the 10th end it was 9-9, but with Joan Western (G) and Ann Mollison (T) Linda could not get a lead.

Despite a good last end, they lost narrowly 13-15.

If only they had won, as the 2 points would have seen them take the Cup.

Liz Fraser (T) had Sheila Reidford (G) and the youthful Lucy Willox and they were 6-5 up at 5th end, 10-12 down at 10th , and 13-14 at finish.

Again so near!

Ella Simpson (T) and Frances Thomson (T) were with Carla Banks (G), and had no score between 2nd and 7th ends, but then came back to be

11-13 at 12th end.

They fought hard but eventually lost 13-16.

On the day, with a little bit of luck the team could have scored shots and all 4 rinks felt at one end, in their match, they might have scored….but

that is bowls!

Derek MacKay, President of Garioch, who was present said “The Ladies in all four rinks did their best, and while they did not bring back the Cup

they should be proud of their performance in the final and their great wins against Stonehaven 6-4, Fraserburgh 10-0, East Kilbride 8-2 and

Arbroath 8-2 to reach the final.

We at GIBC are very proud of the outstanding performances of the team”
