Garioch Jazz Club is set to hold its first concert of the season this weekend.

It will be held at the Hopeville Social Club in Inverurie on Friday, September 29, with doors opening at 7pm for 7.30pm.

The band is going to be led by Ali Affleck who has been described as Scotland's bona fide queen of vintage jazz and blues.

Reviews have said: "Ali carries you to deep majestic places brimming with optimism before turning the tide; the air is engulfed with shattered moods of absolute despair.

"Her voice was deep and smooth and I wanted to just wrap myself up in it. It was a real privilege to witness a singer that channels Billie Holiday with so much charm and poise.

"Where she particularly excelled was as a musical storyteller. St James Infirmary and The Black-Eyed Blues were stand-outs because Affleck didn’t just churn out the lyrics; she used them to bring the characters mentioned in these songs to life, and to create atmosphere."

In addition, as it is the first concert of the season attendees are encouraged to dress up in vintage styles, be it 1920s, 1930s, or 1940s.

The Aberdeen University Swing Dance Society will also be sending along a group of their dancers to help people strut their stuff.
